Nice places very close to the gîte!

Because of the exceptional variety of tourist sites near the gite, it is impossible to present all of them. Here we've selected a few "unmissables" to give you a starting point.

When you arrive, you can flip through the collection of tourist guides in the gite library, borrow hiking guides and IGN maps on a 1/25,000 scale, or, if you want to get off the beaten track browse through the folder that we have collected of less well-known hikes.

And, of course, we are there and always glad to share our passion for this region with you and to give you a few tips... while, it goes without saying, sipping on a pastis, one of the local drinks.
Château d'Assas

The Assas Castle
Twenty minutes on foot from the gite, through vineyards and garrigue, lies a "folie", a Montpellier-style edifice built in the 18th century on the ruins of a feudal chateau.

From its esplanade, the coast spreads out before you from Aigues Mortes to Mount Saint Clair, which towers over the village of Sète.

Les Matelles

The architecture of this mediaeval village is typical of the villages in the garrigue, with high, narrow homes carved righ into the rock.

As you wind along its narrow streets, you cannot help but feel that you are going back in time.

Pic Saint Loup

This is the legendary natural beacon for the entire Montpellier region.

An easy hour-and-a-half hike will take you to the summit, from where the garrigue landscape spreads out before you. The superb panorama over the entire coastal area is well worth the effort.

When there's a full moon, a few regulars climb to its topto dine in the tiny chapel, and always extend a warm welcome to newcomers.

The Montferrand Castle

This eagle's nest has a distinct grandeur that grows more and more imposing the nearer you get.

Getting there demands some prudence, but will enable you to discover its imposing arched semi-underground vaults.

You reach it after about an hour's hike, once again through the garrigue.
